The short answer: most US teams spend between $50 and $500 a month on AI lead generation software. Outbound sending platforms are the cheap end, with Saleshandy from $25 a month billed annually and Instantly from $47 a month on its outreach tier. Full AI SDRs are the expensive end, with AiSDR publishing $250, $900 and $2,500 a month by contact volume. Contact databases like ZoomInfo, Apollo and Clay price by credits or by quote, so the number depends on how much data you pull. Whatever the plan says, budget another quarter to a half on top for credits, mailboxes and sending domains.
All prices below were checked in August 2026 on each vendor's own pricing page. This category moves fast, so treat them as a starting point and verify before you sign anything.
What AI lead generation tools cost, by category
The reason cost answers vary so wildly is that four different products get sold as AI lead generation, and they are not substitutes. Working out which category you need is the whole budgeting exercise. Once you know that, the price range narrows a lot.
| Category | Example vendors | Typical US monthly cost | What drives the bill up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outbound sending platforms | Saleshandy, Instantly | $25 to $555 | Volume of emails sent and prospects stored. |
| Full AI SDRs | AiSDR and similar | $250 to $2,500 | Number of AI-researched contacts per month, plus mailboxes and domains. |
| Contact data and enrichment | ZoomInfo, Apollo, Clay, Lusha | Credit based or by quote | Credits consumed, number of seats, and which data fields you unlock. |
| Demand generation | AiMarketer and similar agents | See our pricing page | Ad budget, which is a separate and usually larger line than software. |
If you are not sure which row you belong in, the test is simple. Do you have a list and no messages going out, or messages going out and no list, or neither? The first two are tooling problems with a clear price. The third is a demand problem, and buying data will not fix it. We wrote up that split in more detail on our AI lead generation page.
Outbound and AI SDR pricing, verified
These are the numbers each vendor publishes on its own site. Note how differently the two ends of the market are packaged: sending platforms charge for volume, AI SDRs charge for researched contacts.
| Tool and plan | Annual price per month | Monthly price | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saleshandy Outreach Starter | $25 | $36 | Unlimited email accounts, 2,000 active prospects, 6,000 emails a month. |
| Saleshandy Outreach Pro | $69 | $99 | Unlimited email accounts, 30,000 active prospects, 150,000 emails a month. |
| Saleshandy Outreach Scale | $139 | $199 | 60,000 active prospects, 240,000 emails a month. |
| Instantly Growth (outreach only) | See vendor | $47 | 5,000 emails a month, 1,000 uploaded contacts, unlimited accounts and warmup. |
| Instantly Starter bundle | $85 | $94 | 5,000 emails, 1,000 contacts, 1,500 credits, AI sales agent access. |
| Instantly Scale bundle | $175 | $194 | 100,000 emails, 25,000 contacts, 5,000 credits, AI reply agent. |
| AiSDR Solo | $200 (billed $2,400/yr) | $250 | 200 AI-researched contacts a month, 1 user, 1 domain, 3 mailboxes. |
| AiSDR Explore | $720 (billed $8,640/yr) | $900 | 800 AI-researched contacts a month, unlimited users, 2 domains, 6 mailboxes. |
| AiSDR Scale | $2,000 (billed $24,000/yr) | $2,500 | 2,500 AI-researched contacts a month, 6 domains, 18 mailboxes. |
Two things stand out. First, the annual discount is real and worth taking once you are past the trial stage: Saleshandy's Starter is $25 against $36, and AiSDR's published annual pricing is 20 percent below its quarterly rate. Second, AiSDR's Solo plan is month to month while Explore and Scale require quarterly contracts, so the higher tiers carry commitment as well as price. Read the billing terms, not just the number in the box.
Saleshandy also sells dialer and inbox-placement plans separately, and prices add-on credits openly: $10 per 5,000 AI credits, $19 per 5,000 email verifications and $29 per 1,000 dialer credits. That transparency is unusual and genuinely useful when you are modeling a real bill.
Why contact data vendors will not tell you the price
Try to price ZoomInfo from its website and you get a form. That is deliberate, and it is not only a sales tactic. Data vendors price on three axes at once: how many seats, how many credits a month, and which data you can see. Phone numbers and intent signals cost more than emails. A number that fits a two-person startup would be meaningless for a fifty-rep team.
Apollo and Clay do publish self-serve tiers, but both revise them often enough that quoting a figure here would be out of date within a quarter. The practical advice is the same either way. When you take a quote, get four things in writing: credits included per month, whether unused credits roll over, the overage rate, and the renewal price rather than the year-one discount. The renewal is where this category surprises people.
The costs that are not on the pricing page
Every outbound program has a second bill. It is not hidden exactly, but it never appears in the comparison table you used to make the decision.
- Sending domains and mailboxes. Serious outbound means several secondary domains and multiple mailboxes each, so you are not risking your main domain. Domains are cheap, mailbox seats are per user per month, and this line grows with volume.
- Email verification. Sending to stale addresses burns your reputation, so you verify before every campaign. Saleshandy prices this at $19 per 5,000 recipients, which is a reasonable benchmark for the category.
- Enrichment credits. The credit allowance in your plan is what the vendor thinks you will use. If you enrich aggressively you will run out mid-month, and overage is priced less kindly than the plan.
- Warmup time. New mailboxes need weeks of warming before they can send at volume. You pay for the tooling during a period when it produces nothing, and plenty of programs get judged as failures inside that window.
- Somewhere to put the leads. A CRM seat per rep, and often a plan upgrade to get the AI scoring and routing that make inbound leads worth having. If leads currently sit in a shared inbox, software that can route each new lead to the right person automatically is usually a cheaper fix than more lead volume.
Add it up and the realistic first-quarter cost is meaningfully above the plan price. A quarter to a half again is a fair planning assumption while you find your real usage level.
How much should you actually budget?
Budget from your stage, not from a feature list. These are the bands we see US teams settle into, and they hold up reasonably well across industries.
| Your situation | Sensible monthly software budget | Where to put it |
|---|---|---|
| Solo founder, no sales hire | $50 to $150 | One sending platform plus modest data credits. Do not buy an AI SDR before you know the message works. |
| Small team, one or two closers | $200 to $600 | A sending platform, a data source and CRM scoring. This is where most of the value is. |
| Sales team of five or more | $800 to $3,000 | A real data contract, an AI SDR layer, and someone accountable for deliverability. |
| No pipeline at all yet | Software is the wrong first spend | Put the money into demand: ads, content and a landing page that converts. Outbound into a market that has never heard of you is the most expensive way to learn that. |
Do the cost per lead math before you buy
Monthly price is the wrong unit. What matters is what a qualified lead costs you and what one is worth. The arithmetic is simple enough to do on the back of an envelope, and it kills most bad purchases before they happen.
Take AiSDR Solo at $250 a month for 200 AI-researched contacts. Add a second domain, three mailboxes and verification credits and call the real cost $350. Now put in your own numbers, because the ones that matter are yours: if that program produces four qualified conversations in a month, you paid about $88 each. Whether that is good depends entirely on your deal size and close rate. At a $20,000 average contract and a one in five close rate, it is excellent. At a $500 product, it is a disaster and you should be spending that money on inbound instead.
Run the same calculation for every option on your shortlist, using your real close rate rather than the vendor's case study. The exercise usually reveals that the expensive tool is fine and the cheap tool aimed at the wrong motion is what would have wasted your year. Our guide to what AI marketing costs runs the same arithmetic across the whole marketing budget, and how much to budget for AI marketing tools covers the stack as a whole.
The cheapest lead is the one that came to you
Every number above prices the work of reaching strangers. Inbound flips the economics, because a person who searched for what you sell and landed on your page has already done the qualifying step you are otherwise paying to automate. The catch is that inbound takes time to build and does not respond to a credit card the way an outbound tool does.
Most teams need both. Outbound gets you conversations this quarter; demand generation makes next year cheaper. If you are weighing which to fund first, the honest test is whether people already know they have the problem you solve. If they do, buy outbound tooling and go. If they do not, no list will save you, and the money belongs in content, ads and a landing page that explains the problem before it sells the fix.
Common questions about AI lead generation pricing
How much do AI lead generation tools cost per month?
Most US teams land between $50 and $500 a month. Outbound sending platforms are the cheap end, with Saleshandy from $25 a month billed annually and Instantly from $47 a month on its outreach tier. Full AI SDRs are the expensive end, with AiSDR publishing $250, $900 and $2,500 a month by contact volume. Contact databases sit in the middle and price by credits, so your bill depends on how much data you pull.
Is an AI SDR cheaper than hiring one?
On payroll alone, yes, and it is not close. A US SDR costs well into six figures a year once salary, taxes, benefits, tooling and ramp are counted, while AiSDR tops out at $2,500 a month on its published Scale plan. The comparison is misleading though, because the two do different work. An AI SDR wins on volume of first touches and loses on any conversation that requires reading a room.
What hidden costs come with AI lead generation software?
Four line items catch people out: extra sending domains and mailboxes for outbound at volume, email verification credits so you do not burn your domain reputation, data enrichment credits that run out mid-month, and CRM seats or plan upgrades to hold the leads once they arrive. Budget roughly a quarter to a half again on top of the plan price in the first few months.
Are free AI lead generation tools worth using?
Free tiers are useful for exactly one thing: checking whether the data covers your market before you pay. Clay and Instantly both offer entry points you can test with. What free tiers cannot give you is sending volume or fresh data at scale, which are the two things that actually cost money to provide. Use them to validate, then pay for the tier that matches your real volume.
